2 ways to move ETH to your Base network in Metamask

Wrap up

Before we dive into what Base blockchain is. Lets understand why do we need more blockchains other than just Ethereum. Well, Ethereum is a chain on which many dApps work with billions of transactions happening everyday. This highway of Ethereum witnesses a lot of congestion which results in low tps and super high gas fee. Think about this as a real transport system. If you want to drive on state of the art highways you essentially pay toll fee to be able to access the road. The toll fee is used to pay salaries of the employees managing the toll and the rest is invested in the maintenance of the highway. Similarly, when we access Ethereum directly, we end up paying a premium for accessing the chain directly.

If we look at transport architecture across the globe, we will find many countries that have built cross bridges and highways to connect to the main highway. These cross bridges also have a cost, but they enhance the overall transport system for people driving to destinations of their choice. Similar to the cross bridge architecture, a layer 2 helps users access the same experience as Ethereum but without the congestion and high transaction fees.

Introduction to Base network

Now that we know what a layer 2 blockchain does, lets understand what Base blockchain offers to on chain crypto investors and traders. Base is an optimistic rollup blockchain that adds multiple transactions in one batch. Transactions are conducted off-chain, meaning they don’t directly interact with the Ethereum mainnet. This allows for faster and cheaper transactions because they don’t have to compete for limited block space or pay high gas fees.

The Base Mainnet becomes a bridge to Ethereum and other L1s and L2s. Built using the Optimistic Layer stack, Base is truly leading the layer 2 scalability game in crypto.

How to add Base network to Metamask?

Many people have moved their funds to Base Mainnet to benefit from the low transaction fees. To get started, you can add Base mainnet to your metamask wallet. On top left corner you will see the network. Click on it and a new tab will open on your screen. In the list of networks, click on Base Mainnet and hit approve. Now, you have successfully switched to Base Mainnet.

2 ways to move ETH to your Base network in Metamask

Two simple ways to move your Ethereum from Ethereum Mainnet to Base Mainnet. First way: As you are on your Ethereum network. Click on Bridge. Next, choose your current network and cryptocurrency you wish to move from Ethereum to Base. Next, you can click on Bridge to see quotes from different bridge providers. Ensure you have enough ETH to move your funds from Ethereum to Base. Check all your details properly.

Please note that you cannot directly transfer your ETH from ETH network to Base. You can either bridge it or use a cross chain swap provider like Sushiswap.  This brings us to the second way of transferring Eth from Ethereum Mainnet to Base Mainnet. You can opt for swapping solutions like Sushiswap to move your crypto tokens to Base. Both methods are tried and tested. However, please note that defi transactions like these too cost some amount of gas fee. Hence, opt for cross chain transfers when the network is relatively free.

Wrap up

In totality, Base – an optimistic scaling blockchain is a clear winner when it comes to Layer 2 scaling solutions. The Coinbase network’s very own chain ‘Base’ has won the hearts of crypto investors and defi traders.
